In this article, I’ll explain how to use premade Blythe Eye Chip Bases to create 3D eye chips, and where to get them!

There are 3 different ways to make eye chips for Blythe:

  1. Digital Prints with Glass Cabochons
  2. Eye Base Support Molds (DIY Make your Own)
  3. Premade Blythe Eye Base Support Bases

We are going to be talking about the 3rd option, using premade Blythe Eye Base “Supports”

These small plastic little “cups” come in a variety of different styles, but most commonly, they will look like these on the left.

You will notice they have a small circular inset area, which is used to place a very thin magnet for “magnetizing” your doll eyes so that they are easier to install into the eye mechanism.

They come in a variety of colors as well, I personally prefer the clear transparent ones, or the transparent black ones.

These provide a “base” that you must then fill with either clay or putty so that you can sculpt or “texture” the iris. They can also be used with digital prints, but that is for another article…

There are several suppliers for these online, but not all are created equal. I’ve purchased some that did not fit properly, had rough edges, or the plastic was just too thick for my liking.

Depending on the seller, they can also be pretty expensive, and that is why some folks prefer to make their own using a Blythe Eye Base Mold. Sometimes it’s just nice to have them already pre-made, so let’s look at some Seller’s to choose from!

Purchase on Superbuy!

Meet Meow’s Nest! They offer several different color options, and you can find their listing by clicking here.

Notice that some seller’s sell these by the “pair” and some seller’s sell them by the “lot”. Meow’s Nest offers all three colors, and their .15 price per pair can’t be beat!

Next up is TOAST Doll’s eye bases, which are lovely, but they are more expensive at roughly $45 for 50 pair. Their listings are a bit different, you must select the correct item from their listing photos, currently, the eye bases are the last one in the list.

This is also the same Seller as the infamous UV Modeling Paste, so there is the potential here to combine ship locally and save some money! ๐Ÿ’ช

I’ve purchased from both of these Seller’s in the past, and both provide excellent quality premade support bases for making 3D Eye Chips!
